• Half of Britain’s international visitors head to London

VisitBritain said that half of the 28 million international visitors who came to Britain in 2009 stayed in London.

The tourist body’s Market Focus report found that 14.1 million visitors stayed in London, 12.9 million in the rest of England, 2.6 million in Scotland and 1.0 million in Wales.  The figures include some visitors staying in more than one area. The body has revised its 2010 tourism forecast because of the Icelandic ash cloud and now predicts the volume of inbound tourism will decline by 0.7% this year, but that inbound visitor spending will increase by 1.3%.
