• Whitbread re-enters FTSE100 thanks to share price hike

The startling rise and rise of Whitbread's share price over the last couple of years has led to it being readmitted on the FTSE100, the listing of the 100 biggest UK companies by market capitalisation on the London Stock Exchange.

The main driver for the share price rise has been bid speculation but the company continues to deliver sparkling results from its core budget hotel operation Premier Travel Inn.

Total sales for the first 39 weeks of the year to November 30 showed sales at PTI up 16.3% or 7.7% on a like-for-like basis.

A total of 1,640 new rooms were added in the period from 14 new hotels and nine extensions. It is on target to add 2,500 rooms this year.
