Trump Entertainment Resorts has filed for bankruptcy protection, the third time the US casino group has sought Chapter 11 status.
Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka resigned from the board a few days before the filing.
The resignation of "the Donald", who had been chairman, came after a series of rows with bondholders who control the company. He is understood to want his name removed from the properties but is obligated to keep it there while a services agreement is in place.
All three properties are in Atlantic City whose 11 casinos have been hard hit during the recession. Speculation is rife that as many as three casinos in the area could close permanently with the smaller and older properties tipped as being most vulnerable.
