InterContinental is trialling a new technology that will allow guests to open their rooms with their mobile phone, allowing them to miss the check-in queue. The trial of MobileKey, at hotels in Chicago and Houston, uses SMS technology to send a unique tone to a mobile phone, and works with smartphones and simple older cell phones alike.
Customers can choose the new MobileKey or traditional check in during the trial. The technology has been developed by OpenWays, and installation requires a simple upgrade to room locks.
