• Retail sales spark inflation fears

Retail sales in the UK rose at their fastest pace in more than three years in August, according to the Confederation of British Industry.

The reported sales balance of the monthly distributive trades survey rose to +35 in August from +33 in July. However, with shop price inflation accelerating at its fastest rate since February 1992, concerns were raised about inflation.
