• Travelodge adamant no prospect of a sale

The Times newspaper has reported that economy hotel chain Travelodge has no intention of selling until the hotel market has recovered.

The chain, owned by debt-laden Dubai International Capital, has criticised Premier Inn owner Whitbread for declaring it might be interested in making a bid for it. Travelodge executive chairman Grant Hearn said its lawyers believe a merger between the two, which will create a giant of 1,000 budget hotels in Britain, would be in breach of UK competition laws.
