UK hotel will see over 10,400 rooms open this year and a further 43,000 planned for the period 2011 to 2015, according to the British Hospitality Association.
Around 70 projects were abandoned or postponed during the year. The report said: "Undoubtedly, the recession has curtailed bank funding and sent some developers into insolvency. Although there are exceptions, the majority of the new hotels are branded properties with many of the developments undertaken by franchisees."
