MGM Resorts is considering how best to mitigate hot spots around the base of the new Vdara hotel in Las Vegas caused by the building’s mirror facades, according to reports in the US press. The hotel, part of the massive City Center development, opened in December.
The building’s concave facade is focusing the sun’s rays, creating a focused beam with sufficient heat to melt plastic, it has been alleged. MGM is trialling window film treatments, and considering further shading around the hotel’s pool area.
