Entrepreneur Richard Branson’s Virgin group has declared its intention to get into the hotel sector. The company broke the news at the Lodging Conference in Phoenix, and has launched a dedicated Virgin Hotels website.
Virgin is looking to start in North America before going global, and aiming at a four star offering in units of 150 to 400 rooms with a target of "up to $500 million in properties" over the next three years. Marketing will integrate with Virgin’s airline and loyalty programmes.
