• BBC boost

Hotels in Manchester and Salford have benefitted from reservations worth almost GBP2m a year for the last two years, made by the BBC. The national broadcaster has spent the sums accommodating staff, since moving its operations to the city from London, reports the London Times.

The figures were obtained by a member of parliament, concerned that travel spending by the corporation is excessive. The revelation will add to criticism of lax spending controls, and overly generous relocation packages.
