IHG adds in Puerto Rico
IHG has signed to open its first Holiday Inn Express in Puerto Rico. The 115 room hotel in the Condado district of San Juan will be the company’s fourth hotel in the country, joining an InterContinental and two Holiday Inns.
Visa changes welcomed
The World Travel and Tourism Council has welcomed news from the European Commission that it will ease the processing of visitor visas. Smarter visas and better border security policies will encourage tourism and boost the continent’s economies, it believes.
Starwood heads south
Starwood will increase its South American portfolio by 20% before the end of 2016. And in Mexico, it plans a 30% increase in its presence, growing to a 26 strong portfolio over the same period.
Middle Eastern investor Investment Corp of Dubai is buying a 46% stake in Kerzner International. Kerzner operates the Atlantis and One & Only resort chains, reports Reuters.
Marriott’s African growth plan
Marriott is pressing on with expansion in Africa, following its acquisition of Protea Hospitality. It will add countries Benin, Gabon, Ghana, Ethiopia and Mauritius to its portfolio with planned openings, reports Bloomberg.
