Shard hotel opens

Shangri-La has opened its London hotel in the Shard, western Europe’s tallest building. The hotel’s 202 rooms are on floors 34 to 52 of the landmark tower designed by Renzo Piano, offering guests stunning views.

Emin Barcelona buy

Investor Emin Capital has paid EUR90m to acquire the Deutsche Bank office tower in Barcelona, for conversion to a Four Seasons hotel. A further EUR50m will be invested in creating the 150 room hotel, once office tenants have vacated the building.

Mexican REIT Fibra Inn has bought the 143 room Hotel Mexico Plaza Silao for MXN91.2m. The hotel, in Guanajuato state, will be converted to a Wyndham Garden and relaunched in autumn 2014.

City officials in Beverley Hills have added to pressure on the government of Brunei to soften the country’s enactment of tough sharia law. Several events have been cancelled at the Beverley Hills Hotel, part of the Dorchester group which is owned by the Sultan of Brunei, reports Reuters.
