• European costs rise

Rising costs took a bite out of hotel revenues in Europe, through 2013. Berlin and London saw profits down, despite growth in revenues, while Brussels and Paris profited, report Hotstats in their annual market review.

Goppar is increasingly being seen as a more useful performance metric than revpar, say Hotstats. The measure shows hotels in Dubai up 10.9% in 2013, while those in Istanbul saw goppar down 14.1% year on year.
