Hotels in the UK regions had a strong May, with yield up 8.9% as occupancy nudged up 0.5% and rates improved 8.4%. Strong comparables with May 2013 meant London saw occupancy down 1.9%, albeit rates rose 4.1%, report BDO. 

While London missed a significant sporting event during the month, it still achieved 83.5% occupancy. In May 2013, the UEFA Champions League football final, held at Wembley, helped boost visitors from mainland Europe.
