• UK call for VAT cut
The UK tourism industry has launched a campaign for a reduction in VAT to 5%. The Give Us A Break campaign has support from Accor, IHG, the British Hospitality Association and local MPs as well as the Sun newspaper.

The country’s tourism sector runs a GBP17bn deficit, with five Brits holidaying abroad for every two foreigners who visit. The UK’s 20% VAT compares with 6% in Portugal, Holland and Belgium, 7% on German hotels and 10% charged in Spain and France.
