• GBP3.9bn VAT boost
A cut in UK VAT on hotels and visitor attractions would deliver a net GBP3.9bn gain to the Treasury over a decade. More jobs, and a reduction in the tourism balance of payment deficit would result, according to research for the Cut Tourism VAT campaign.

Campaigners are lobbying for a 5% VAT rate for the hospitality industry, to encourage overseas visitors and increase spending. Under EU regulations, European governments are free to cut VAT rates across the leisure sector, something many other EU countries have done already.
