Marriott fined for wifi block
Marriott has been fined USD600,000 for blocking wifi internet access at its hotels. The action forced guests to buy Marriott’s internet service at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, reports Bloomberg.
Hotel closures logged
A quarter of hotels closed in the UK market are demolished, while many of the rest are converted to residential use. An update to the database held by consultants AM:PM now shows details of more than 6,000 closures, many of which were independents.
Luxury wins in France
Most French hotels enjoyed a positive August, with revpar up 4% in midscale and 10% in the upscale and luxury sectors. In contrast, hotels in the budget and superbudget sectors barely registered any gain, report consultants In Extenso.
Landlord upset by Airbnb use
A New York landlord is taking their apartment tenant to court for subletting via Airbnb. The Central Park West occupier has been regularly renting three of her four bedrooms via the site, reports the New York Post.
