• Japan tourism boom

Japan welcomed a record 13.4m visitors last year, helped by tourist numbers from China almost doubling. A sales tax exemption for foreign visitors also encouraged them to spend more, reports the Wall Street Journal.

A weaker yen has made trips to Japan cheaper for foreign visitors, sending arrivals up 29%. The country is easing visa restrictions with the aim of attracting 2o million foreign visitors by 2020.
