• Indonesian cutbacks

Hotels in Indonesia are suffering from a presidential cutback on spending. Civil servants have been banned from holding meetings in hotels, a move that should save the government USD1.9bn this year, reports Bloomberg.

President Joko Widodo’s administration says it may relax the ban, after representations. Government spending has accounted for up to 60% of the hospitality sector’s income and there are predictions many hotels will close.
